I saved a life last night....

I was driving to pick up my daughter and the cars in front of me were driving around something.... a tiny ball of fur just sitting in the road.

I honked and it didn't move... I get out and check and it's a little kitten sitting down on all fours, tail wrapped around it's body and just staring. I didn't know if it was frozen, had been hit by a car or what.

I gently picked it up and put it on my lap in the truck (borrowed from my dad to move some stuff) The cat had blood on it's mouth. [img]frown.gif[/img]

After it warmed up a bit, it looked around, stared at me while I was petting it and jumped down and hid under the truck seat. I couldn't reach in the tiny space under the seat to get it out. [img]eek.gif[/img]

After talking to the vet they said to leave some blankets, food and water and bring her in in the morning. I was afraid I'd look under the seat this morning and find a dead cat.

Well, she was still alive this morning... still has some blood around the mouth and on her fur... The nurses at the vet were able to reach in from various directions, pull her out and put her in the cat carrier.

Because she's so scared and freaked out they couldn't get her to hold still for an exam. I have to call the humane society to have her scanned for an ID chip... and see if she needs medical attention.

I can't keep her, but someone here at work wants her if she checks out okay.

I'm just glad it's still alive... and still kinda shocked at how many people DIDN'T stop to help.

Every animal that has been added to the family has come in through some story close to that.

We have picked them up in parking lots after getting kicked, hit by cars, thrown out of the window of a moving vehicle.

Hopefully the little thing will make it.

I want that Kitty!!! Too bad I'm out here though. To be honest nothing bums me out more to hear of unwanted pets just thrown out on the street.

yeah, that's how i've gotten my last 3 pets...

Rocket (RIP) was found in the middle of a busy street... we stopped, opened the door and he jumped right in...

Ralph (i didn't name him, but RIP as well) was found in a meijer shopping cart... we saved him, but he ended up being a rotten little cat... died around 5 from lukemia.

now we have Rufus (don't really know what the big R name thing is...) who's the best cat we've had in a long time. my mom's friend does animal rescue, his entire litter was going to be put down at the shelter, so she took them. he's a year old next month.

My dog Beethovan and cat Reeses both came from the shelter. They love their new home.

I'm still concerned because of the blood that was coming out of the mouth area last night... The vet said it could just be a broken tooth or a bit tongue.

I'm trying to tell myself that if the kitten had serious internal injuries, it wouldn't have lasted the night.

I hope the kitten is ok. It was good of you to stop and rescue it...animals are too often dumped and neglected. My mother takes in so many strays that we have quite a collection of dogs and cats, and it's gotten to the point where people will just dump their unwanted animals directly in our yard.

I have 2 black cats living under my deck. Freaks me out when I see one because I think it's my cat Cocoa! (like she would ever go out into the snow!)

They must be some kinda cold cats! I put food out for them but they are very skittish!
